JLee in the House & What's Next?

We had a fantastic time at the meeting last night. The highlight was having author of Hotel Liaison (and many other great books), JLee Meyer join our meeting via webcam. What a wonderful gift to have such a close knit community and the technology to support it that we can have first rate authors join us at our local book club meetings! Thanks JLee for meeting with us tonight.

Next up - And Playing the Role of Herself by K.E. Lane. Here's a blurb I lifted from her publisher's website:

Actress Caidence Harris is living her dreams after landing a leading role among the star-studded, veteran cast of 9th Precinct, a hot new police drama shot on location in glitzy LA. Her sometimes-costar Robyn Ward is magnetic, glamorous, and devastatingly beautiful, the quintessential A-List celebrity on the fast-track to super-stardom. When the two meet on the set of 9th Precinct, Caid is instantly infatuated but settles for friendship, positive that Robyn is both unavailable and uninterested. Soon Caid sees that all is not as it appears, but can she take a chance and risk her heart when the outcome is so uncertain?

This book is a fantastic read - I can't wait to pick it up again and get lost in K.E.'s TV drama world. Join me?

Hotel Liaison - Fantastic Read!

I just finished our April book club selection - JLee Meyer's Hotel Liaison and I can't help feeling a little empty now. JLee's characters were vibrant and layered, and during the read, I felt like I was a part of the intimate group. This book represents one of the best ensemble cast stories I have read in a long time and I look forward to reading future books in this series. See everyone at the next meeting - Urban Dog Coffee, Wednesday, April 8 @ 7pm.

Exciting news about March meeting

Hi Everyone,

I have great news for attendees for our meeting on March 11. We will have a drawing for two copies of our April book, "Hotel Liaison" by JLee Meyer.

JLee has generously donated two books for our drawing, and I am so excited that we will be reading this wonderful story with it's multiple levels. I think JLee has a sequel planned down the road, and you will love these characters.

I also have a surprise of another book for our drawing donated by author C P Rowlands of her "Lake Effect Snow." This is another excellent book by a first time author that addresses current issues of terrorism and love found.

I hope everyone is enjoying "Calling the Dead" and that you haven't missed work because you stayed up all night reading this fabulous mystery.

I had a great time at the mixer and hope to see everyone back at our next meeting and bring some new faces with you.

Don't forget to call Fatti if you need a copy of Ali's book.

Get ready to call the dead because our books just arrived!

Sandy ordered seven copies of Calling The Dead, and they came in today. You can email or call me to arrange a time to buy them, or you can just buy it from me at the Brunch this Sunday.

I hope to see you on Sunday

Wow!

Tonight's Java Jive was a great way to kick off our new Lesbian Fiction Book Club!!

The turnout was fantastic and the conversation was dynamite. We gave away two signed copies of our first book, Calling The Dead. Sandy was kind enough to order seven books for us and donated the shipping costs. The books will be on sale for $15.95 each. If you are interested in buying them from her, please email me (jewel@rcdallas.org) so we can arrange pick up. Because the first meeting is only three weeks away, Sandy ordered the books for us to give us a jump start on reading instead of hunting the book down. Although we'd normally encourage everyone to support local business when buying our monthly books, I encourage you to purchase them from Sandy first.

We'll work with the local bookstores and keep them aware of our reading list. Hopefully they can order the books we need so we can center our book shopping to a particular store or two.

I'm so pumped about this new book club. I didn't realize we had so many lesbian fiction book readers in the area. This new book looks fantastic and I can't wait to get started!

Everyone is welcome to contribute to both JEWEL blogs. If you are interested, just email me and I'll be glad to add you as a contributor.

Well it's way past my bedtime, but I'm still buzzing for the Java Jive (and a little bit of the Java :D).

First Book - Calling the Dead

The kick off mixer for our lesbian fiction book club is on Wednesday. I'm getting very excited!! We've obtained two signed copies of our first book, courtesy of Ali Vali and Bold Strokes Books, and we'll be giving them away at the Java Jive on Wednesday, February 18th.

Here's the description of this new book from Bold Strokes Books' site:
Detective Sept Savoie is a cop who thinks making a relationship work is harder than catching a serial killer, but her current case may prove her wrong.

Six months after Hurricane Katrina has devastated most of New Orleans, Detective Sept Savoie is battling the nightmare of everything the storm has taken from her when a brutalized body turns up behind one of New Orleans’s most famous restaurants, run by Keegan Blanchard. The more Sept works through the clues, the more they point to Keegan, making the relationship growing between them anything but love at first sight. The first death is only the beginning, though, as the miles of deserted neighborhoods Katrina left behind provide the perfect stage for murder.

I've heard awesome stuff about this book. I've been told it's a tough one to put down!

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday. :)
